Anybody else who avoids cows milk?

We've not been using it for over a year now (since DD1 developed an allergy). Hazelnut, coconut, breast milk and raw goats milk are favourites in our house.

I was talking to other mums on a chat and they all found it strange and unheard of that I don't give my DC "normal" milk or formula as a substitute and my MIL thinks I do it on purpose to make my family "weird"... I know I'm not the only one but di any of you get the same comments/looks when the subject is brought up?

Just curious :)

I did. I just can't get my head around feeding bovine milk to a baby human (I accept it as an ingredient, for adults, though), I've researched it a lot, I don't beleive It's the right thing to do, cows develop very rapidly, not like humans do naturally, and I just can't get my head around it.

Personal choice.

Yes my family thought I was weird-but I had my reasons and I had evidence for their validity.

We gave DC 1&2 cow's milk and never thought anything of it (even though I'm one of those vegetarians who reads ingredients Grin) but when DC2 got her allergy, I researched and didn't like what I read so stopped buying it.

I hate that some people and my MiL think I have to justify my decision. Which I don't.

Ds now 7.5m doesn't get cows milk. He was diagnosed with an intolerance at 6 weeks. I just think it makes him mildly uncomfortable now so I avoid. As I was bf I no longer have it either. Goats milk and breast here too

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/09/2014 20:26

I avoided it to. DD2 was intolerant so all her food was made with milk alternatives. She's 3 now and ok with small amounts of milk I just never found the need to start using it again as she did so well without it. I took Dd1 off milk too. They get let off when at other people's houses or parties etc but at home and when we go out for dinner we choose non dairy options. I can't stand the stuff and use alternatives for myself too.

My first had an intolerance so she had the KOKO coconut milk to drink and in foods for 2 years. She has now grown out of it so she has regular milk now, although not to drink as she doesn't like it!
I'm not giving my 6 month old dairy for a while because of possible intolerances and as she's breastfed that's all she needs
Your MIL is clearly loopy - why would you give a child something they were allergic too? If you LO had a nut allergy would she expect you to give them nuts!!?

MultipleMama · 21/09/2014 15:32

Not loopy, she doesn't like anything different or anything that steps away from the traditional path Grin

She does ask, "she still got that milk thing?" And I feel like banging my head against the wall, repetitively. Hmm
