I am so confused about when it is ok to give babies sugary things, my twins are one, and I have friends with babies of the same age who never give their babies anything sugary except fresh fruit, and other friends who let their babies have biccies, or a bit of sugar on cereal.
Whats the correct thing to do, I mean when is sugar Ok?
They had a jaffa cake the other day at playgroup and was so excited they bounced up and down smiling.
I brush their teeth after every meal, or at least twice a day.
Sorry I live abroad and dont have a HV so can't ask them. Thanks

I would say when thay are old enough to ask, and then only as a treat after meals.

Good answer about "when they can ask for it". No need to give them anything sugary yet, and better for them not to have it, so why not give healthy alternatives? There's no hard and fast rules about this, you must do what you think is right, but you know yourself that fruit will do them more good than biscuits, and less likely to encourage a sweet tooth.

What feels right to you? There's going to be a million diffderent opinions on this probably. Personally, at one, I don't thinkk there's anything wrong with the odd biscuit, jaffa cake etc. If it seems to have a bad effect on your twins, don't give them it til later, or not at all. I am learning to go with my instinct more and more with my dd. It is difficult at first.

Trinidad try starting your own thread using the links at the top of this one, you may get more responses that way

I think banana, avocado, maybe some sweet potatoes or other sweetish veg like carrots are all popular with 6 month olds. You don't need to be going mad at this stage, just offer tastes of different fruits and vegetables. Try looking at the site Baby Led Weaning which is written by an MNer and has loads of useful ideas for baby food.
