Brown, wholemeal or white bread?

My dd (7 months) has occasionally been having toast/sandwiches. I've been giving her white bread as I thought that was the advice - that brown/wholemeal is too much for their little digestive systems to cope with.
However, I've just received a long ranty email from MIL saying I shouldn't be giving her white bread Confused We normally eat brown/wholemeal as a family, and I've been buying small loaves of white especially for dd.
Which is better for her? Am wondering what other people give their babies?!

I give white for the same reason I thought that was the advice.
Althogh about half the time its home made often by my MIL, as she likes baking - could you sugest that to yours if she is so worried? Grin

I use the 50/50 type bread for my DS for this exact reason. I don't eat white bread so it seems weird to me, but I was told that brown was too much fibre... hence the 50/50!

I think there is a bit on the NHS weaning page about not giving too much brown carbs?

I understood brown/wholemeal stuff is too filling when they're this little and can mean they don't get enough calories. We've only just started but like you, because we eat brown I've been buying a little white loaf.

As we eat wholemeal bread, I gave that to DS as well. He ate so little for the first couple of months that we'd have wasted a lot if I bought him special bread. But I used white pasta and rice to avoid overloading on wholemeal foods.

I keep sliced bread in the freezer. A single slice defrosts really quickly or you can toast from frozen. Saves it from getting wasted and chucked.
