Has anyone weaned early on the advice of a paediatrician?

And if so did it help?

Dc2 is 17wo. Saw paediatrician last week as he's been really struggling with silent reflux. I wasn't thinking about weaning just yet but he thought it would help and suggested trying it in the next few weeks.

Has anyone this? What did you start with and most importantly did it make a difference?

Tia

Yes, I did with ds. We gave him a bit of baby rice at about 11 weeks. I started off with half a teaspoon made with breast milk. I stuck with small amounts of baby rice until he was about 5 months. It had a good effect for us. As we introduced the rice in greater quantities/frequency he became more and more settled. For us, it was definitely a good thing. However up to this point we hadn't used gaviscon or ranatidine so the rice was our only treatment.

Yes - same reasons - reflux. We started at 16 weeks because dd refused to drink. Made the world of difference, it really helped her reflux.
Think we started with carrot purée. You're supposed to do root vegetables first as very little chance of allergy, followed by pear, apple puree etc.
she eats like a champion now although still very slim, and has been off reflux meds since 13 months.

Thanks for that that's encouraging.

He's on ranatidine just increased the dose which seems to help but he's still massively unsettled. The other issue is he may have a cows milk allergy (although not sure and the doctor didn't really help with that) but i think i remember you shouldn't give cows milk before 6mo anyway?

Same here with silent reflux . weaned at 16 weeks .

He is now just 7 months and gags quite a lot still but he doesn't be sick now which is a good sign .

We started weaning at 20 weeks. Made no difference to his relux. Only thing which helped were strong meds which couldnt be taken before 12 months.

Sitting up and walking made no difference either

We were advised to and tried to. DD had silent reflux and was on omeprazole but wasn't gaining weight so tried at 12 weeks, tried baby rice mixed with pear or apple or carrot purees. DD loved them but got so constipated on just a couple of spoonfuls a day that we had to give up. I tried every couple of weeks and eventually, she was able to take solids, at just over 7 months. Once she was weaned her reflux improved, she started gaining weight, and she started sleeping much better. Those first 7 months were awful , I hope you arn't finding it too tough. The paed thought perhaps she had an immature gut and couldn't digest food, which caused the constipation. But weaning helped hugely, she turned from a clingy crying unhappy baby into a smiley happy child very quickly. I think weaning helped cos she couldn't take enough milk to satisfy her, grow and so was hungry all the time so couldn't sleep.
