So I have been mashing and purée various things and dd loves it. But I'm so so wary of blw. It scares the crap out of me. Today I got brave and gave her some cooked fingers of carrots, straight in mouth, sucking religiously and low and behold a big chuck cane off and she swallowed it. Luckily for me and her she sicked it back up but my god!! That was scary xx

Well you don't have to do it, just stick to purees if you feel happier and more in control.

That's not baby led weaning btw, that's giving finger food, which should be part of traditional spoon fed weaning.

Gagging (with the accompanying vomiting that sometimes happens) is a normal reaction to experiencing solid food. It's actually protective as it stops them from choking as the food is ejected forwards. Choking is silent and very different to gagging.

You might feel more confident with finger foods that disintegrate into mush more easily e.g. the corn puff type things that organix, plum etc do, very soft fruit like ripe nectarine, banana, raspberries. Ripe avocado is also good for getting mushed.
