8mo DD not doing well with finger food

DD will be 8mo on Saturday and I've been weaning her since just over 5 months old. I started with purées and when she got to 6 months I tried giving some finger foods which she seemed to take to really well. I started doing a mixture of both purées and more solid foods but over the last few weeks she's really struggled with the solid foods. Anything I give her (even well steamed veg) she almost chokes on and coughs it all back up with loads of fluid Confused I don't understand it as she was fine with them at first. I've tried a variety of different foods but have now given up because she ends up distressed and crying after coughing everything back up Sad she hasn't got any teeth yet so I don't know if this is why?

I've bought one of those net things that you put food in and baby can chew, but I'm really worried that she's not eating as she should be. I've started making the purées more mashed than runny (mashed peas, mashed beans in chilli etc.) which she seems ok with.

Can anyone give any advice? Am I worrying over nothing? I keep seeing friends/people on here whose babies that are the same age and younger are eating chunks of meat, toast and all sorts.

What sort of finger foods are you offering felix?

FelixFelix · 20/08/2014 22:32

She's had all sorts of veg (steamed broccoli, carrot, roasted squash, sweet potato, cucumber sticks), various fruit, toast, breadsticks with humous, bits from a roast dinner (chicken, Yorkshire pud, roast potato). I can't think of anything else off the top of my head but I have tried her with more. Am I giving her the wrong things? She was eating it all fine at first then started struggling all of a sudden Sad

Has she got a sore throat at all

I don't reckon so. It's really weird as she's all enthusiastic about having the solid food but then just coughs it up and loads of watery stuff comes up too Sad She's been like it for a few weeks and I keep offering it to her but the same keeps happening.
