Milk and meals

Hi

I usually give my little boy around 6oz of formula when he gets up at 7ish followed straight away with cereal with another 2-3 oz on. Is this the right thing to do or should I give him his breakfast followed by the milk? I'm just worried that once he's eaten he won't want the milk and this is a big proportion of his daily intake, I make up a 6oz bottle at 2pm but he usually only has 4oz, then will have 6-7 oz before going to bed. He is almost 9 months and usually eats 3 good meals a day

my 9 month old has his bottle before b'fast. He seems happy enough...I'm sure i've read that they need about 20oz per day so seems reasonable to me. I think i would only worry if you felt that having the milk affected the amount of solids he had. Not sure if this is any help to you or not??

I would give the milk first and let him eat some cereal after.
Supplement his 'milk' with things like yoghurts and cheese and when you cook things like mash potato add milk to that too, it all counts. Sounds to me like he is doing well and the amounts of milk seem fine to me. By the time he is a year old he will probably drop the 2pm feed and eat more during the day and have larger bottles morning and night, this is what ds did anyway.

At around this age I found it tended to work best if I gave my babies their milk before breakfast (as soon as they woke, in fact, so sometimes there would then be a gap of 1/2h or more until we sat down to breakfast), then again after afternoon nap, then last feed at bedtime. That way they tended to drink more and to eat more than if I combined milk feeds with solids feeds. So what you're doing sounds perfectly fine to me, especially as you say he eats 3 good meals a day as well. About 20oz/day is fine.
