Toast with butter for 8 month old?

My DS doesn't seem to like plain toast. I have tried loads of times and he just plays with it, but once he managed to get hold of my toast with jam and he loved it.
This morning I put butter on his and he was a bit more interested. I realise sweet toast is not recommended but is it ok to put butter on his toast?
We are doing BLW, and some days I just don't want the mess muesli and cereals make...

i definitely giver DD toast with butter, she loves it. unsalted butter's better, i suppose. they need fats at that age and butter is lovely.
Funny you should mention this archiesmummy, i was going to post on the blog about the simple pleasures of hot buttered toast. we also put hummus and philly (not together) on and she likes that too.

I always used unsalted butter until they were 1.

i think it's nicer, too. sainsbury's do a lovely organic one.

Texture of (most) unbuttered toast would be difficult.
I suspect that when some foods are refused,it isn't so much the taste that is objected to,but the work the chewing involves!

aitch - funny you should say that - I have just rediscovered joy of buttered (real butter)toast as my dd is enjoying it immensely.

Going for unsalted butter of course, but I can't resist it either - my poor arteries!

will have to do, there's no icon for butter dripping off chin.

I am a "proper food" fascist and I would far rather DS eats a small amount of real organic butter, than some scary lightweight/fakey margarine or "spread" (ugh) full of god knows what. I don't generally give him much but he does like to snaffle a bit of toast with butter & marmalade from me and DP's breakfasts - he is now 15 months but has been doing this since about 8 months. I think it's fine.
