Wants to spoon feed himself.. 6 months

DS is 6 months this week, we started purée food last week as it just came about naturally. He loves it. But in the last day or two he's started to refuse to eat unless he is holding the spoon - making it very difficult for any food to get anywhere near his mouth! He is optimistic at least! Today I managed to battle with his urge to direct the spoon somewhere else and give him half a wheetabix for breakfast. I then thought we'd try give him half a banana to play with. Which was literally play - squished and put on the floor. Maybe he wasn't hungry but maybe he is more interested in using a spoon?

How do I get such a young baby to spoon feed himself / or let me do it!

For lunch we are going to try boiled courgette sticks. I'll also make up a purée of courgette.

Give him a spoon and then spoon fed him with your spoon

I used to have two spoons, load one and pass it to my DS, then do the same with the second spoon whilst taking the first one off him. That worked really well and gradually evolved into him feeding himself with the spoon.
