Tongue thrust reflex

Just wondered -how on earth did our parents manage to wean us at 3-4 months when all the literature suggests this reflex doesn't disappear till around 6 months? Curious that's all, my LO is 6 months next week and has been sucking/gnawing at my lunchtime apple but an attempt at puree was pushed straight out again.....so I'm not rushing

I think if you keep spooning in puree they start to swallow regardless of whether they're ready or not. But I bet it was messy!
