2 types of milk?

so DS has just turned one and is off the fomula and took to cows milk really well, he slept through the night from being six weeks old (I thaught I was lucky) but the past month he wakes around 12-1am for some milk, I used to keep ready to feed formula next to my bed so I wouldnt need to go downstairs ect..but now hes on normal milk so I was wondering does anyone use the cow & gate growing up milk? and would I be able to give him ready to feed cartons of that at night if he has normal cows milk in the day? or should you not mix milks?

If you were to mix, then I would use the formula he was on, not get anything different.

Or get him off having milk overnight, replace with water. May wake less, as may be waking from habit rather than due to hunger.

I'd use baby formula rather than growing up milk. Baby formula won't harm (it's just unnecessary) but it's not full of sugar like growing up milk is.

Normal cow's milk won't go sour being left at room temperature for 3-4 hours, though. I'd just put it in a bottle and leave it upstairs. Or buy UHT milk?

I wouldnt start offering milk again tbh. Could you give a snack before bed?

Put a bottle in a cool bag when you go to bed

he has porridge before bed with a little beaker of milk but still wakes up in the night

How much milk is he having in the day?

he has about 2 oz altogether through the day after meals and water aswell and about 5 oz after porridge before bed

is that supposed to be 2oz?

So is he getting roughly 7floz a day?

yeah about that sometimes a little more sometimes a little less

for comparison, my 19mo DD is getting 12-14oz cow's milk a day, split between morning and bedtime bottle.

Regular cows milk will not go off at room temp overnight. Justvpour a bottle of cold milk when you go to bed and it will be fine until morning.

I try to give him more milk in the day but he just wont have it

The recommended minimum amount is 10floz (300ml) a day of full fat cows milk until he's 2.

It depends on how you want to go. As others have said, cows milk will not go off in the night so if you are happy to still do the night feed, you could just carry on with that.

If you're not happy to continue, you need to up the amount he's having in the day. Have you tried giving him a beaker of milk about an hour before his breakfast? You can usually get a couple of ounces in ready break for breakfast. Have you tried him with things like milky jelly, rice pudding and cauliflower cheese? They should all up the amount he takes during daylight hours.

What does he have for a snack in the morning and afternoon? Is it possible to get some milk into him then?

If he's not getting his 10floz are you ensuring he's getting enough calcium, fat and protein? Things like dried figs, almonds and green veg are all high in calcium as are sardines and tinned salmon.

Most of the added things in toddler milk are basically disposed of by the body so there is little point in buying it.
