Baby vomited after gagging on food

My DD is still getting used to food (we've only been weaning for 4 weeks). I'm doing a mix of spoon feeding and BLW (with more spoon feeding so far).

Earlier today she gagged on a lump of banana. She's gagged a few times before (which I know is normal), but this time after gagging a few times she vomited. Poor thing!

It didn't seem to affect her thankfully but it was horrible to see - first time she's ever been sick.

I'm not worried that she's ill as it'd be way too coincidental bearing in mind it happened literally just after her gagging, but am now nervous to continue the BLW as don't want it to happen again.

Has this happened to any of your LOs?

My DS has only really done this once, but it was fine really. He wasn't too bothered and I managed to stay calm and just clean it up and carry on with the meal.

We did BLW, but even though you are not, finger foods are recommended alongside spoon feeding. So the gagging and occasional vomiting are something that could happen unfortunately either way.

Well, that's what gagging is for - to protect the airway.
And as everything works really, really well in babies Wink, they vomit quite readily when gagging. Or coughing. Or laughing too hard. Or crying too hard…
You get the picture. Don't worry, she won't have come to any harm.

Give her small amount off a baby spoon, make she she takes the food off the spoon rather than you spooning it in IYKWIM. Wait until she has properly swallowed before you offers more.
With finger foods, give her one thing at a time and always stay with her.

How did she get on with milk feeding? Either breast or bottle.

She is FF and she took her feed absolutely fine
