raw meat, runny eggs and salt?!

This might sound extreme, and I guess it is, but it's a genuine question. I have a book - Real Food for mother and baby, by Nina Planck - that recommends the following:
'your baby can eat unrefined sea salt to taste'
'if you start early... i highly recommend lightly cooked egg yolk with a pinch of salt...'
'raw ground beef or lamb with olive oil and salt is a good dish for babies'
It's an otherwise commonsensical book but this seems to run contrary to all the advice I've read anywhere. Thoughts?

Was this written in the 1920s?

No way do you give your baby salt. No way.

Nope! 2009... That's why I was similarly confused...

Even more confused by the raw meat advice though...

She seems to have a particular axe to grind. From a quick google, she has a dislike of vegan/veggie diets, and advocates a raw meat (from non-industrialised sources) diet. There seems to be very little evidence to back up her point of view, and lots of evidence to counter it. She has no qualifications in nutrition, child health or anything else. I would take her "advice" with a pinch of salt (ha! Bad humour, sorry).

Ah, one of those people who think only cheap food is bad for you. I wonder who's taste that is, yours? Or does the baby grind their own at the table? Wink
