Hi guys,
My son is 1 week off 7months, we weaned at 5.5 months, he was 2 weeks late, and he has always been a great eater with food and milk.

Last 2-3 weeks he's started not wanting last few oz of milk, meals are:

Morning before- 7oz bottle, all breakfast. Now- prob 5oz, few spoons.
Late morning before- 7oz bottle. Now- prob have 4 or refuse.
Lunch before- homemade/jar all and all yogurt. Now- few spoon, or refuse, few spoons of yog.
Dinner before- 7oz bottle, all homemade/jar. Now- prob 4-5 oz, few spoons or refuse food.
Bedtime before- 7oz bottle. Now- prob 5-6 oz.

Thought he might be bored so tried a few finger foods, he'll av a nibble then throw it. Tried 7 month foods, he still does same refusing. And I've tried all usual 'airplane' 'mummy eat it' 'share with toys' etc, I dont know what else to do, he poos every day and has plenty of wet nappies. He started teething at 3 months and has ate fine, so I don't think it's that. Any ideas? Anyone in a similar boat? Help xx

My dd is 8 month next month, and from 6 month she's been a absolute nightmare to wean. I tried everything all different foods to make her open her mouth(she clamps her lips shut!). If I do manage to get food in her mouth she just lets it all fall back out again. She's been seen by HV and they've referred her for a swallowing test... Sorry I'm not much use just wanted to let you know your not on your own lol will be watching this thread for ideas!!

I have had a couple of days of food / drink refusal myself (my DS is now close to 10 months old) and was going to suggest stomach bug However, I guess that wouldn't last that long. I'd suggest to try to speak to your HV or GP.

Thanks guys, good to know I'm not the only one, I'm taking him next week to HV, as they're off this week. Just been reading IP on baby led weaning, so I might try that, see if he'll eat more, sounds messy but worth a try x

Does he cry for his bottle? If he is starting to refuse his mid morning one, I would stop giving it . I think my Ds was about this age when he went down to 4 bottles. You could try a sippy cup of water and a little snack instead?

beccajoh · 26/05/2014 17:20

Does he seem hungry? Is he sleeping normally still? Alert? Etc...

smokeandfluff · 26/05/2014 21:27

If he is peeing and pooing ok, in good form, sleeping well, not waking up at night hungry, weight ok, maybe just go with the flow? Maybe avoid the encouraging and 'airplane tactics' as it might be off putting. Once he stops opening his mouth, stop trying to feed him. It is hard not to stress, ds is 7 months and has a very variable appetite.

MrsMuskett · 27/05/2014 09:52

He's just started waking in night, well not waking but groaning in his sleep while he's still asleep, that's another issue we aren't sure what to do with! He only woke 3 times last night though, but I'm thinking it might be from skill learning as he's on the verge of crawling. He poos and wees as before, he is already on 4 bottles. Been reading up on baby led weaning, so trying that from today, so far he's managed half slice toast and had all his 7oz bottle, so fingers crossed, I'm thinking of dropping his bottles to 3 7oz, hoping that he'll be hungry enough to eat it all, then he's still in his allowance of 18-28oz, do you think that's too soon?x

Mrs-the advice I was given was a minimum of 17-20 oz per day. Ds can vary between 15-24 oz, but he is not great with bottles so I end up adding it to his food. Hope your ds is doing ok. Ds has days where he will eat all around him and then other days he gets really cross when I try to feed him. Can't wait until he can self feed abit more.

We ended up taking him to PC24 as he was throwing up and had about 6 bouts of diahrrea in an hour, doc said he's got a tummy bug (baffled from where) keep fluids up etc, morning after, a little tooth had appeared ...so it was teething after all! He's been drinking his bottle fine now and eating fine, well apart from foods with lumps but he'll eat finger foods the monkey lol. Thanks for all the advice though, at least we know what it was/is now. So much for diahrrea and sickness not being accociated with teething Hmm. Xx
