BLW - how often at beginning?

I'm on week 2 of BLW. DS is 27 weeks. It's going well (luckily, as he won't let me put a spoon in his mouth! This is why we started BLW)

Just wondered - at this stage would you offer food at every meal time? Or just one, or two? He's keen to eat, but don't want to fill him up too much as obviously he needs to be hungry enough for milk.

Any thoughts very welcome.

I would offer something whenever you've got something suitable to begin with. There's no harm on him filling up on food is there?

Thanks, that's kind of what I'm going at the moment.

I just mean if he fills himself up on carrot for example then he doesn't have room for the real calories which are in the milk.

I would make sure you give milk before solids (about an hour before worked well for us) to reduce the risk of him filling up on low calorie foods and not having much milk.

DS joined us for meals whenever he was awake and happy (and we weren't eating something unsuitable like a takeaway!). I wasn't worried if that meant three meals one day and only one the next day. NHS advice suggests only moving to three meals around 8-9 months but I figured if he was having milk first and there was absolutely no pressure on him to eat, there was no harm in him joining us more often. More opportunity to watch us, join in etc

My LO just joined us at the table and I gave him a few bits of our veg. Sometimes he ate, sometimes he played with it. Never made a conscious decision how often to give him food, just came naturally.

I offered milk before a meal and then she sat at the table with us when we were eating and mostly just sucked or threw veg on the floor!

She didn't get into food really before 9 months and didn't drop much milk till 10 months.

He is very unlikely to be actually consuming very much at the moment, so little risk of him filling up on milk. Have you read the blw book? It's ideal if they're not too hungry when you offer solids, because they will get frustrated otherwise.

I offered lunch and tea to DD from 6 mo and introduced breakfast at 9mo to bring her up to three meals.
