how much milk with weetabix/porridge?

I am starting to get things ready for weaning and am wondering how much milk needs adding to a portion of weetabix or porridge or a similar food for baby? How much would be made up at one time? I was thinking a quarter of a weetabix (don't think I would be able to break it any smaller). Am going to express some breast milk and put in little avent containers I have but don't like expressing so don't want waste. I don't want to put 3oz in 1 container to freeze to find I only need to use 1oz. Any experience?

If your baby is 6 months old you can use cows milk.

I know I can but isn't it better to use breast milk? I thought this way she is less likely to reject the food too as it will taste familiar.

I see what you mean but I think I would try with the cows milk first if after a few tries your baby won't take it then maybe try with bm? I don't think it's 'better' to use bm with food as they'll still be getting all the goodness from feeds with you.

I tried using bm with feeds with DS1 but struggled to express enough and found it frustrating when he didn't eat the food and I had to throw my lovely milk away!

I think I use about 1oz ebm per dessert spoon of ready brek or 1/3 of a Weetabix. I always add fruit too though which makes it a bit wetter. I also like to make it fairly thick so it stays on the spoon. Why not try making some up with water to judge how much liquid you think you need without wasting milk? Be warned, they can turn to concrete thicken up when left to cool. Grin

Thanks :-) good idea with the water. I am wanting to express now as baby has started going through the night or at most having one boob just once so catching some in a pot seemed a better idea than catching it in the duvet like I am currently doing :-/

By the way it took me a few attempts to be able to make ready brek without it exploding all over the microwave. I do it in 10 second bursts and stir in between.

I usually add about 80ml (so just under 3oz) of ebm or whole milk to dd's weetabix. It's just enough to soften it but it's quite stodgy still so easier for spoon feeding.
