Portion question

Day 2 of weaning and just need clarification of portion sizes.

Have this morning made some puréed sweet potato and some puréed carrot and have frozen both in an ice cube tray (each section is a little larger than a regular size ice cube).

Everyone says that for the first few days she will only eat a few teaspoons and that also one of these 'cubes' equals one portion. But how long do I continue that way for?

What I have heard said is that their stomachs are the size of their own fists, so a portion should be a roughly similar size. However, as you are right at the beginning of weaning I wouldn't be worried if she took more or less than this at the moment. As long as you are offering food about an hour after a breast/formula feed then she won't be too hungry or too full to be interesting in solids.

IMO the idea for the first few weeks is simply to offer a wide variety of flavours and textures, rather than it being about getting a certain volume of food into them. Let her eat until she isn't interested any more, and you'll be fine.

Big disclaimer here though, I did BLW with my ds, so had no idea how much of anything he was eating! Generally I think they eat to their appetite. Now my ds is nearly 22 months he eats really well, but definitely stops when he is full - even when eating things that I know he really enjoys.
