Constipation!

I've been weaning my 7mo DD for a few weeks now & in the last week she's really started to ramp up what she eats. I'm really pleased but the last few days she is very constipated.

She loves banana so I've been giving it to her often, but I've seen that can slow things down so I will drop it for a few days. Please does anyone have advice on what foods might have a laxative effect & if there is anything else I can do to help her?

pears, prunes etc are good.

Make sure she still gets plenty of fluid. Lots of milk and sips of water with her meals. scale back solids of you need to.

A teaspoon of brown sugar in a couple of ounces of water can help get things moving.

Please don't give her brown sugar, that advice is quite out of date.

Scale back the solids to once a day if you can.

What milk is Lo on? If its follow on milk that can be constipating.

Oh brilliant thanks for the advice Smile

She's on aptimal 1st milk & BF'ing as well. Will give her less solids and more liquids for now.

Are there any other binding solids I should avoid?

I found a few spoonfuls of prune juice for DS, or a glass for me helps. I think that the sorbitol in the juice transfers to your milk (or it's coincidence), but it seems to have an effect (warning: effect will also happen for you!)

Sweet potato, rice and eggs Smile

If you are using pouches try the ellas kitchen one with prunes, it worked in this house for the same problem

Sorry if I have given out of date advice, brown sugar in water was recommended to me on a recent NCT weaning course.

I thought after all your advice you'd appreciate a poo update! Wink
Tried everything above but still no luck so on Wednesday I took her to the Dr who gave her a stool softener.

Finally this morning I have just dealt with a weeks worth of poo in ten minutes from a no longer constipated DD. I know it's gross but I felt like you ladies would at least understand how relived I am about her disgusting achievement! After a weeks worth of hysterical crying every time she's on the changing table it is finally over-hooray!
