Is chorizo suitable for 8 month old?

Am planning to offer my 8 month old, a BLW style buffet for his tea tonight, but the only meat I have in the fridge is either ham (with lots of E numbers, so want to avoid this) or pork chorizo slices. Is this suitable or not?
It doesn't have any E numbers but some of the other ingredients that I'm not sure about are as follows:-
soya protein isolate
stabiliser sodium dishosphate
antioxidants sodium ascorbate
sodium citrate
colour panceau 4R
preservative potassium nitrate

well, I'm sure most of those ingredients do have E numbers. Personally, I wouldn't... it's full of salt as well, and can't be chewed easily.

sodium seems to rank quite highly there thats not so good, the preservatives and colours ARE also known as e numbers. Get a guide not all e numbers are bad though some are!

If in moderation and wafer thin slices I'd do it. Probably not at every meal or in huge chunks

Mum2FunkyDude · 24/08/2006 16:04

I would make sure there is no other salt alternatives in the buffet.

Greensleeves · 24/08/2006 16:06

I would think it's too spicy for a baby.

tribpot · 24/08/2006 16:08

I've offered it to my ds and he turned his nose up at it - too spicy. For one meal it won't do any harm to offer it although would skip it myself.

Try eggy bread instead, I cut the crust of a slice of wholemeal bread and soak it in 2 egg yolks and fry in a pan over medium heat, making sure it is well cooked. You can cut it into strips. This is a good alternative as an animal protein.

Mum2FunkyDude · 24/08/2006 16:13

I mean remove the crust before you soak the bread.

Thanks for all the replies. I decided not to give him the chorizo, based on your answers. I went with just a veggie meal including fingers of cheese.
Great idea about the eggy bread Mum2FunkyDude, I shall definitely try that once I introduce egg, which I shall be doing in a couple of weeks time when he reaches 9 months.
Can anyone tell me a weblink where I can read about a list of the E numbers?
