Does anyone's DC not have a morning bottle?

Sorry it's long but trying not to drip feed. DS is 7.5mo, weaned at 4mo due to reflux. He's currently on two meals (breakfast and lunch) and three bottles a day.

About 6 weeks ago I decided to ditch the first bottle as he was completely uninterested, but would happily eat breakfast with some water at 6:30am-7:30am.

He was then having a bottle about 10:30am, but now he's not interested in that bottle until about 12:00pm, which is when he'd usually have lunch. With lunch now happening about 1pm and a good nap from about 2:30pm, his next bottle can now be as late as 5pm. Bedtime is 7:30pm so he has another bottle just before then.

I think I should just perhaps ditch the late afternoon bottle and replace it with another meal/snack, but from what I read on here most babies who have two bottles a day have them first thing in the morning and last thing at night... does it matter? I really want him to have a good full bottle before bed as he is on medication that puts him at risk of low blood sugar (though I check it now and again and it's always been fine).

Does anyone elses baby not have milk first thing?

How many oz is he taking? That say 20oz until 1 year old is recommend for vitamins etc.

11oz so no worries there. I could always give him a little top up at some other point in the day if he didn't finish one of his bottles, but he has a pretty varied diet too.

11oz is a lot per feed - maybe smaller, but more bottles?

Gerty1002 · 24/04/2014 07:28

He's always had huge amounts - he's been 98th centile weight since birth. He's above 99.6th for length. He was on 9oz at 6 weeks old.

I could try giving a little less I guess and just give a full bottle at night. He might not get too cross if he's having plenty of food too.

I would honestly do whatever your DS wants and not stress about what he should've having. It had taken me til DC3 to realise this though! I was trying to give her feeds and meals when she was supposed to have them but didn't want them so I started missing some milk feeds and she was fine!

DD still wakes up about 4am ish for a bottle so I don't give her one first thing. She only ever has 6/7oz at a time though.

How about giving lunch at 12 then offering a bottle afterwards? Then you will be in more traditional mid afternoon territory.

I would offer 5oz or so after breakfast as well, but if he doesn't want it, no point forcing it.

I decided to try a morning bottle before breakfast again today and he took 9oz!

So we did:

6am - 9oz bottle

8:30am - breakfast (gave me a bit of extra time to make a nice one, which was nice)

1pm - Lunch (Would usually be 12pm)

2pm - 9oz bottle

5:30pm - small snack

At 7pm he'll have an 11oz bottle

He was a little difficult at lunch, though. Not sure if it was hunger as it was late or because we were eating out and things were far too hot when they arrived. If he can see food, he wants it :).
