Bibs help!

8 mo is a very messy eater especially as most of the time refuses the spoon and wants to feed himself. Trouble is ALL bibs seem inadequate mostly because the gap for the neck too big and thus the food still gets on the top part of his clothes. AIBU to want something that properly covers his clothes AND is washable/ wipeable? Must be long sleeved. Currently using TU (Sainsbury's) longsleeved but again the gap at the neck too big (resorting to safety pins) but the fabric washes very poorly. Can't believe Im the only mum with this issue.

I've just bought a long sleeved bib from JoJoMamanBebe and it's great.
Friends rave about the Wonderbib (think you can get it on Amazon).

Could you put a smaller bib over the top of the ones you have to fill the gap, IYSWIM?

CornishYarg · 22/04/2014 15:49

I used to put a small fabric bib under DS's cover all bib to catch any food (usually yogurt!) that fell down the neck hole of the main bib. The bandana style fabric bibs worked particularly well as they're quite snug round the neck.

We use the long sleeved Ikea bibs, they are great. And cheap.

John lewis do a red all in one apron

Pricey at £16 for one but worth it

MilkRunningOutAgain · 22/04/2014 20:59

Summer's coming, I used to strip DD to her nappy in warm weather before meals, it was much easier to clean her up than wash her clothes!

WinterHasRuinedMyFace · 22/04/2014 21:02

I have tried quite a few, the best one I've found is this one from jk

www.johnlewis.com/bumkins-ribbons-bib-multi/p521372

It ties up with ribbon, so I can do it up tighter than the Velcro ones.

I also have a neoprene one (bibette I think) that I bought from Amazon which protects her clothes really well, but doesn't wipe clean (washes well in the machine though).

Spindelina · 23/04/2014 09:55

We've got the Bibetta neoprene ones too. You can rinse (or chuck in the washing machine) and they dry quickly.

Tommy tippee do one with a padded ring round the neck that's pretty snug, we pop it under one of the John Lewis coverall bibs which pretty much sorts the top half of her body... Feet, hands, hair and the rest of the room is another story Grin

THESE ONES

Artandco · 25/04/2014 13:41

Best ones - babybjorn. About £17 each though so not cheap. But x2 plenty as can wipe over each time and put in machine as needed. They last up to 6/7 years as painting aprons as lare enough so good value in the end

Otherwise ikea ones are also good and cheap, but smaller and fray after a few months washing etc imo

FreeButtonBee · 25/04/2014 13:45

Third the Bibetta ones I have 4 plus 2 of the ikea aprons (which I use for breakfast). All go in the wash on a 30 min express wash every evening and dry on the back of the high chair overnight (I have twins!) Then just have dribble bibs for snacks/general muck/spilt milk.

Trooperslane · 25/04/2014 13:47

I love sillybillyz. I put a wipeable bib over the top.

Wash great and go in the dryer.

noblegiraffe · 25/04/2014 16:22

We have hundreds of muslins so I tie one around her neck then put a Tommee Tippee plastic one with a food catcher over the top. Got fed up of mucky sleeves so just take her long-sleeved top off for meal times.

My dearest little one is almost the same as yours when she is around 7 and a half months old. She is a very messy eater. I have a lot of bibs and some of them are long sleeved bibs but none of them survived. Then one of my closest friend suggested me to have some baby bibs that has a catch all pocket. So I decided to buy some and fortunately my baby girl likes it. I was very surprised because her mealtime is not that messy at all not like before. Until now I am still using that baby bibs and it makes my life more easier. I could say that these baby bib I've been using is really good.
