Can you freeze strawberries?

they go kinda mushy, my mum said, sometimes you could freeze them if you were going to use it in a coule (sp?) like a smoothie type thing but a cold dessert

I cooked some on Saturday and froze in ice-cube tray. Seemed fine when I defrosted a cube a couple of days ago, and mixed it with yogurt.
