Weaning not going well!

Hi, I'm trying to wean my dd and she did great for the first few weeks but now she cries every time I try to give her anything that isn't milk! It's so strange because she did so well up until the weekend just gone she was up to 3 meals a day and down to 4 milk feeds a day then it all just went wrong. Any advice please as I don't know what to do, don't want to go backwards!

How old is she? It's normal for babies to go through phases of going off food. NHS advice is to move to three meals a day by 8-9 months so if she's younger than that then you don't need to worry too much.

As mentioned, 3 meals is a lot if you are only in the first weeks of weaning. How much milk is she having in total? If less than 500ml formula, you need to be giving a vitamin supplement.

If you are spoon-feeding, it's possible that she has decided she doesn't want to be spoon fed any more so you could try more finger foods.

Other reasons for going off food could be teething (hurts their mouth) or being poorly.

Don't panic!!!!!! Put the food in front of her, if she eats it, great, if not, oh well. She's still getting nutrients through milk and the more of an issue it is for you, the more of an issue it will be for her. Do you all sit as a family at the table? I found this worked so well with DD2, made the mistake of feeding DD1 entirely separately from us.

Thanks, she's around the 6 month mark so I'm obviously worrying far too soon! It's just that my ds started weaning at 5 months too and he couldn't get enough of it and now he's 4 and still eats amazingly well! x
