Suspected Allergies and Weaning

Hiya, DS is almost 8 months and loving food very much.

He has always been really sicky, weird green poo etc etc and for the longest time I have been going back and forth between doctors, HVs trying to get some help with this. The suspicion is allergy to his formula and possibly dairy, probably nuts and maybe wheat (gluten?). Finally are waiting for allergy testing but in the meantime I have been advised to avoid these three and eggs in their pure form (but ok in cakes etc)

I have paired back his diet, eczema looks better, allergy rash going down, poo looser and more yellowy ...

Thing is, I really am only giving him fruit, veg and meat. I'd like to give him toast, breadsticks, lumps of cheese etc to mix things up a bit and bulk out his meals ... Can you give babies "free from" versions of food?

Also, any ideas on good finger foods in this case that isn't veg fruit or meat?

I have been referred to a dietician for advice on weaning because of suspected CMPA. Ive been told by her that they wont bother with allergy testing as it can give false positives and lead to you avoiding things that he isn't actually allergic to, but she was happy to diagnose from my description of his symptoms and the fact that they went once on the new milk.

He has reflux too so ive been advised to avoid all dairy until he is off his meds for that, as they could mask any symptoms/reactions. They are going to advise me on how to introduce dairy afterwards, too see if he is allergic. Apparently about half of babies grow out of CMPA by 1 year old and in hoping he will be ok once we get to try him.

If your daughter is vomiting so often, could she have reflux? Often also goes hand in hand with milk allergy.

Sorry, i mean your son!

Reflux is another thing I have mentioned the the doctors and HVs but they don't know, told me to persevere and he will grow out of it. Gosh. I have terrible support don't i?

He is sicky but not all the time. I got a bit gung-ho after being told there was no point limiting his foods from today (by GP) and gave him a yoghurt at lunch time. Cue vomiting.

They are only testing us because of the nuts thing

Doesn't sound like the best support! Maybe press for a paediatrician referral?

Not really sure what to suggest as we were really lucky and it only took 2 gp visits to get referred and one more to get the milk. I know some people wait months though.

I don't bother with my HV as she says some very odd things and her advice is questionable at the best of times.

Yeh we've been waiting for a paed referral for about 8 weeks now ...

I have come to realise most HVs (and GPs) don't know much about baby allergies
