Babies and mayonaise

DS is 10 months old and won't eat eggs. I'm thinking about trying to give him an egg mayo sandwich to get him to eat eggs. Can babies have mayo? It would be Helmans not homemade!

Smiling, You need to make sure that the eggs are very well cooked. I wouldn't give egg mayo but you could try Annabel Karmel's recipe for scrambled egg with cheese. 2 eggs, 1 tbsp milk, 2 tbsp grated chedar cheese and half oz of UNsalted butter.Melt butter in pan and whisk everything else together and cook for about 3 mins. Egges for babies or young children need to be cooked very well. No runny yolks.

HB - have tried scrambled eggs - DS wont eat them - I think its the texture!With the egg mayo I was thinking of mashing up hardboiled eggs (so they would be well cooked) and them mixing with a bit of mayo so as to make a sarnie. Is Mayo bad for babies then? Lunarx - how do I make French toast?

yes mayo is fine, dd loves annabel karmels tuna/mayo/sweetcorn on jacket tattie and all jars are pasteurised (sp)but i use helmans as its the best

French toast - beat an egg with a slosh of milk, dip a piece of bread into the mixture so that both sides are covered. Melt a knob of butter in a frying pan and fry the eggy bread in it, flipping over when golden brown. I think AK suggests drizzling maple syrup/honey on it but you might want to start off just serving it plain.
It is yummy and ends up quite solid after cooking so you can chop it into little squares and use as finger food.

she's 13mths now but i've been using mayo for a good while infact i tried eggs once and she didn't take to it so i should probably try again, have you thought about trying omelette

I wouldn't give mayonnaise to a baby - it's very salty and shop bought ones are usually full of crap fillers, additives etc.

Does it matter if he doesn't like eggs at the moment? I would leave it and try other foods that he does like.

I wouldn't bother with eggs at all if he doesn't like them - he has plenty of time to change his mind. There's plenty of other good stuff that he can have instead.

Hellmans is fine it's pasteurised, so you can eat it when pregnant too.

French toast is very tasty. I think it's softer and a bit tastier than plain eggy bread (it's just eggy bread but with a bit of milk in with the egg).

Frittata is always a hit around here, but then my kids like eggs.
