So we are 8days into weaning, have done 3 days carrots 3 parsnips and now day 2 of sweet potato, but baby has not opened his mouth once, kinda have to trick him into opening his mouth and he is not having anymore that a teaspoon if even that much, does this mean he is not ready? He is 6 months next week and mixed fed so far

have you tried offering finger foods as well?

cogitosum · 16/01/2014 16:10

I'd guess he's not ready. Remember they only have teeny amounts at first as nutrition should still come from
Milk. Early wearing is just about exploring. We started finger foods when ds grabbed some broccoli from my plate and ate it! He's the same age as yours. I offer him finger foods a few times a day

Maybe I'll leave it then until he is over 6 months and try again, what finger food could I give him?

I give carrots, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, asparagus, broccoli, mango, melon, potato, weetabix. In theory it's whatever you have as long as its not processed and salty. I've been sticking mostly with fruit and veg to start with.

see those veggies you cooked for pureeing? - dont mush them up and give them chopped in to pieces instead. Broccoli, cauliflower, banana, ripe pear, etc are good too
