DS is still gagging on stage 2 jars

Hi about a week I decided to move my 71/2month old DS onto stage 2 jars/lumpier home made food`however he is still gagging every time I attempt to feed him, which then leads to only having about 3 or 4 spoonfuls and then refusing to have anymore which is extremely surprising (and worrying) as my DS LOVES his food!!

I considered mashing the food up slightly more but wouldn't that defeat the object of developing his weaning progress? Please help I have no idea what to do!!!

You could try letting him feed himself with finger foods so he can have a bit more control over what goes in? Might help him to get back into eating again.

A week isn't very long, and 3-4 tablespoons isn't bad.

Agree that maybe if you add some finger food he might get more used to texture - even if at this age he mostly mushes it around (and will definitely still gag). Orange wedges with skin off for sucking on or some chip-sized lengths of banana can be a fun start, although may require a clothing change afterwards!

What brand of jars are you using?

DS was a refluxer so vomited up food at the slightest gag. Now it's my understanding that gagging is just their way of moving food to a better position so not necessarily bad in it self but distressing and not great if dissuading your child from eating.

After much effort we found that Ella's kitchen pouches were thicker like the other pouches but had a more even consistency and it was the surprise lumps DS struggled with.

So it might be worth giving them a go. Over time we added in older pouches or homemade food to give DS a nice slow run at getting used to the chunkier texture. He got there eventually and is now a robust five year old who eats everything except mushrooms and onions!

How is he with finger food Dee? Have you tried him on fingers of toast?

Can sympathise as my DS was like this. With him it was tongue tie, has your DS ever been checked?

Could you try mixing the new jars with the old ones for a bit?

Hi thanks everyone for the advice definitely gonna try abit of everything . Yer i give my DS finger food such as fingers of toast/soliders, bananas, rusks, carrots etc and he's sort of okish with that but he tends to play with them more so then chew on them haha. The jars i usually get are either Hipp Organic or C&G never tried Ella's kitchen but will give it ago (especially if its on offer )

My DS ate puréed food until he was about 1 year old. I despaired at the time however I figured that as I'd never seen a 15 year old unable to eat a bag of crisps it would all come good in the end, and it did!
