I'm just starting to wean my 5 month old. I gave him some baby rice yesterday, which he seemed to enjoy. Gave him his milk about 30 mins later and he didn't drink v.much if it. What is the best time of day to give him some solids? This is my second baby but I can't remember what we did last time. Blaming it on baby brain!

keep milk feeds the same and give solids an hour or so later so they dont drop the milk intake too quickly. I started with a mid morning solid feed

You should give food about 1hr after giving milk, not before. You don't want them to fill up with solids and stop them taking milk.

Have a look at the Mumsnet weaning section for a quick reminder Smile

Thanks! He normally has a bottle 7-7.30 am and his next at 11am. Might try giving him some rice or porridge about 8.30. He normally has a bottle at 3pm and another around 6pm and them bed at 6.30. He's been getting hungry at 5, so hoping solids might help him last a bit longer.

I dont think it really matters what time of day as long as its not before milk. My eldest started with breakfast but this was impossible with my second child as i had a school run the the morning so we stared with lunch. both where eating a mix of purree and finger foods by 6 months and happily eating family meals by 7.
