When to offer food instead of BF

Can someone advise me on when I start offering a snack instead of a BF? DD is 7 months, has always BF on demand and sometimes this is at fairly frequent intervals. She is enjoying trying food (BLW) but I don't think a huge amount goes in and she isn't always interested at every meal. Do I wait until she's very established and eating a lot at mealtimes before I start doing snacks, or can I start earlier?

It's all very different from DS who fed in a very scheduled way and weaned with spoon feeding, so I feel a bit muddled (sleep deprivation not helping either!)

I didn't bother with snacks until about 10 months ish, until my ds was very into food. I let the breastfeeds fall away on their own without encouraging it. It seems that as my ds got going with walking he became too busy to want to breastfeed! So gradually they turned into solid food snacks instead.

The current advice is to offer a bf roughly an hour before solids until they are one. At 7 months she should only really be having solids twice a day, the nhs don't recommend 3 meals until they are between 8 and 9 months, so snacks are a while off yet Smile

This article is very good for letting you know how much and how often Smile

Thanks both, that's very helpful!
