Slow weight gain - starting solids at 22 weeks?

Hi all

DD is approaching 22 weeks and I'm tempted to start the weaning process. She is showing interest in food but not really sitting up with or without support. She was on the ninth centile but she has just dropped off it and her weight gain has slowed.

I would ask a health visitor but I have more chance of seeing Father Christmas around here. Has anyone had any experience of weaning to help with slow weight gain?

Thanks in advance! Thanks

Hi we got advised by a paediatrician to start early weaning due to reflux and poor weight gain. However dd was only 17 weeks at the time and just pushed it out she is now 20 weeks and managing much better but her weight has not improved. I feed her banana and avocado as they meant to be one on the higher calorie fruits. My dd is also on the 9th line and I constantly worry! It's hard work having a baby that doesn't gain weight.

Hello SunShine, oh I know! I managed to see a HV and she suggested trying a few purées - and yes had heard the same about avocado. DD is just below the 9th centile for weight and the 98th for length - and neither my husband or I are particularly tall!

I'm going to try some purées this week and see how she gets on. Glad I'm not the only one!
