Hi all, my DS is nearly 13 months old, he can hold a spoon etc but would rather eat with his fingers, any tips to encourage him to use the spoon ?

Well, I'm not an expert having only weaned my ds, but I just gave him a spoon with every meal. Any time he tried to use the spoon I went overboard with praise. If it went in his mouth I did the same. I also ate whilst he was eating, and let him see me using my spoon as well.

He's 16 months now, and can eat really well with a spoon, but still prefers to use hands now and then - particularly if he's very hungry! Now he understands more I encourage him to use his spoon verbally and again do lots of praise when he does.

We've just had lunch and tbh he did really well, I did lots and lots of praise when the spoon went in his mouth, he was loving it, he got so excited he decided to put the loaded spoon in his ear, too funny Smile
