Custard - no salt or sugar. Where can I get?

Pre made full of sugar and birds eye powder has salt in.

Don't want to faff about making it from scratch with eggs.

So anyone know where you can buy salt and sugar free custard / custard powder?

I was naughty and gave premade.

If you use birds powder you can add less sugar to make it up. . Although I just gave it as it was. In moderation (as a pudding always is) some salt and sugar is fine in tiny amounts for babies.

Custard powder is just cornflour, a bit of vanilla and colouring isn't it?

drwitch · 19/11/2013 14:05

use mascarpone instead

Just use corn flour and vanilla extract. It's only yellow because of colouring.

I would use powder but it has salt in. With corn flour and vanilla do you use egg too?

its not got a lot of salt in it though. The ingredients list is:
Cornflour, Salt, Colour (Annatto), Flavouring so you could probably make your own with cornflour and vanilla as the pp said.

Vanilla flavoured yoghurt instead?

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/11/2013 20:50

You won't need egg just mix corn flour to a paste with milk then gradually add the rest of the milk and heat slowly. Either use a vanilla pod, split and scrape out seeds and add the pod or some extract to the pan and heat until thickened.
