Has anybody not started weaning at 6 months?

My daughter is a week off 6 months. She is very interested in food but doesn't seem hungrier particularly. She has food head control but her trunk strength isn't amazing so is a bit slouchy.

She'd be fine I'm sure, in fact my husband wants to start. Has anyone not started weaning by 6 months?

Why not try baby led? Just bung some food out and see what she makes of it. As long as she has started by 8 months or so it's fine. The issue is with developing chewing muscles, not nutrition, she will get her nutrition from milk for some time yet. For some people it's a status thing too. But if she's not ready, don't worry. My DD was 24 weeks and swiped some of my food and ate it, so we started with her then. DS is 20 weeks and showing no interest at all so far, and that's fine.

All hell of mess starts when you wean. No hurry at all, just make sure you introduce things by 8 months. Or let your DH do it, if he's so bothered lol!

I didn't start weaning my ds until he was almost 7 months as I had broken my foot so it was much easier to sit on the sofa breast feeding than have the hassle of high chairs and purée. He was (and remains) a very big strong boy who actually started crawling 6 weeks before he started solids. When he did start eating he picked it up without any problems and it cut down the period of spooning mush into his mouth.

Like snowflake advised, why don't you start BLW and see how it goes?

I started my first daughter at around 22 weeks, she was hungry and waking more frequently and was very cross at us for eating and not giving her any. For some reason it all feels really new to me even though I only did it a couple of years ago!

I think I'll do as I did last time, purees etc, but with lots of finger food. I'll aim more for finger food but I know that both my husband and I especially him are the kind of people who need to see what they're having a bit more than BLW allows. The only thing he doesn't like about breastfeeding is he can't see what they have!
