I am being dim i know but are oats gluten free?

I want to give my baby ready brek - i think they are but am not sure!

Hmm, the answer is "sorta". I think they're ok for babies, but not for celiacs.

ready brek is fine for before wheat is introduced... it'll say on the pack under allergy information whether it's glutan free

I'm sure they are not normally recommended before 6 months. More to do with being processed in a place that also processes wheat products so cross contamination may occur. I think they also contain a protein similar to gluten that may also cause a reaction.

If you google it the info seems to suggest that oats do contain some gluten. This is part of what I found:

It is probably best to avoid oats as they may contain a small amount of gluten. Oats have generally been shown not to upset people with coeliac disease. However, most oats are milled and stored in the same mills as wheat and are probably contaminated with gluten.

Can you add fruit puree to make the rice tastier? Or how about some of the baby breakfast packets you can get - there are quite a few about that do not contain added sugar - Boots and Organix certainly do a few that dd used to like.

At five months, breastmilk is really all they need, sorry.
