Enouraging Lumpy food & cup

My DS is 9 mo old and gags so much he makes himself vomit if I try any sort of lumpy foods. Even weetabix that is as smooth as I can get it he gags on. He also refuses to even try a cup and gets upset when I try. Any ideas on how to introduce lumpy foods and cups? Any ideas most appreciated.

no snacks, make sure he is hungry for the due dinnertime, no milk feeds prior to solid foods (maybe upto an hr), offer dinner,try a few distractions, if he dont like and its going on 20mins ! stop, dont stress out over it and look at his food intake over a week. doing it daily u'll drive yourslef demented with worry.
offer him small bits of finger food. when there is no pressure to eat, or when he isnt expecting a snack, maybe out and about in the buggy/park/car park, somewhere different where mabe he wont put up his defensivness!!!

Just a thought on the cup thing. My dd is nearly 10 months and I was getting upset that she wouldn't drink/hold her cup. I was using the Avent ones (which I thought she was drinking really well from). Anyway last week I thought I'd try a Tomee Tipee one as everyone else seems to use this cup. Blimey!! It was immediate. She picked it up and started drinking from it straight away. I can't get over what a difference it has made. I haven't had to hold her cup at all since she's had the new one and she's doubled the amount of water she drinks - just thought it might be worth a try to change the cup.

totally agree, bobsi. those bloody avent cups are impossible... tommee tippee ones are good but they do leak quite a lot. a good solid spout option is a superdrug one which is just like the tommee tippee one but has a wee straw curled around the tpo so it's not quite as leaky. we use TT in the house and SD ones in the buggy and she likes both.
