realllly stupid question but I can't seem to get it right. Blush

how long do you boil vegetables for babies? Confused

I've done it a few times now and when I've tested softness in the pot its seemed fine so served it up. then I double check it before giving to dd (testing temp and softness) its not as soft as I thought so unsuitable for DD Sad

getting annoyed with myself for not being able to cook simple veg for my DD Angry

so, from when the water starts boiling, how long till the veg is ready?? Confused

thanks Smile

It really depends on what the vegetable is and how small it has been cut up. I steam nearly everything (apart from potatoes) as it retains more nutrients. Carrots cut into finger batons might take about 12 mins, broccoli in small florets about 8. Potatoes boiled and cut into wedges maybe about 15 mins. If I'm not sure about how cooked they are, I hoik one out and try it!

Hi - this site gives an idea of how long to steam different veggies:

I haven't started weaning yet but would second steaming. Much easier than boiling, veg is more nutritious and I've found quicker. Most packets have times on for steaming and if in doubt, leave for 5 mins and then try yourself :)

You can pick up a steamer like this for a tenner in most big supermarkets. It's great for doing fish as well (I do trout or salmon for 10 mins with half a lemon or lime. Planning to give this to dd when she's old enough.

...meant to say, leave for 5 check and then leave some more until you're ready :)
