Is this a normal reaction?!

Ds is 6 months today & has been having solids for 5 days. He seems to love yoghurt (spoons it in by himself), soft fruit & weetabix.

However at other times I've put food on the tray of his highchair, which he picks up & puts in his mouth independently, and he just screams. But continues to feed himself throughout the screaming.

I'm not putting any pressure on him, I even stand back from the chair. But I can't work out if he's enjoying food or not. For example today he had a dairylea triangle in his hand which he sucked at, then screamed, then sucked it again, then screamed. & so this continued.

He's not tired & I've timed solids for 1-2 hrs post his bf.

Any other babies like this?! Why is he screaming?!

Could it be excitement? A kind of sensory overload? Particularly as he carries on putting things in. There are lots of new experiences from eating - tastes, textures, smells etc.

If he doesn't seem distressed then I would just carry on as you are - hopefully it will calm down.

How are things now Jack? Has the screaming stopped?

Hi, sorry I didn't get back sooner.

I'm thinking maybe I didn't time things as well as I'd thought, & I was trying to feed him solids when he was tired. It's hard to tell with my lo cos he fights sleep! But I think he was a bit tired & then just felt overwhelmed by this new 'food' business. I'm only offering breakie/lunch & I'm very laid back about whether he actually eats or not.

He actually had a nap (wow!) Saturday after his bf, & I gave him solids after he'd woken & he was much more receptive. Tried some buttered toast soliders & he sucked/slobbered down two strips. Having said that he still had a mild screaming episode yesterday, & he definately wasn't tired plus he was feeding himself so it's not like I'm forcing spoons into his mouth.

Now if anyone knows how to stop him using his two new razor sharp teeth on me whilst bf.......?!

The screaming could be because the third razor sharp tooth is on the way. Hope it all settles down soon.

Oh god no!! Didn't consider a 3rd tooth! Think I'll buy him a vampire costume for Halloween.
