2nd day of weaning - eating too much??

Hi - I've read tons and tons of threads about people struggling to get their babies to eat but is it possible for a baby to eat too much?

I've tried carrot puree with my son yesterday and today and both times he's wolfed down approx 10-12 tiny spoonfuls - he would probably have carried on if that wasn't all there was. He then took a full bottle straight afterwards. I'm not sure if I should cut down on the milk as that's going to give him more nutrients so should I limit the puree to just a few spoonfuls?

He dropped from 50th to 25th due to CMA but is now just under the 75th - just want to make sure I'm not turning him into a little piggy!

At this age you need to offer the solids roughly an hour after the milk.

How old is he? If he's older than 6 months there is no need to stick to purees or just fruit and veg, finger foods will be fine, in fact most things will be fine. Have a look at foods to avoid. Everything else is fine to give a baby over six months, unless you are under a Paed or dietician and they are telling what to give and when obviously Smile

That makes sense - so he'll be sort-of full but there should be enough of a hole in the belly for him to be interested!

I'll start experimenting - he took the puree so easily that I was going to make it a bit thicker tomorrow anyway so I'll also look into different finger foods as he was happy to grab the spoon and feed himself straight away.

He's allergic to dairy, egg and peanut but it will be homemade 90% of the time so shouln't cause any issues yet.

Thanks

That's a lot of allergies, it must be tough. At least you sound like you've had him properly tested so you know what you are up against.

Just wondered if you are on this FB group.

I'm not on fb at the moment - but I might join as I keep hearing good things about the allergy group on there.

Tried feeding him at 11am today, an hour after his bottle - he still took the whole lot and then cried when I took it away!

Will try just half an hour after the bottle tomorrow!

Thanks

Have you thought of trying blw, it's supposed to help them self regulate their feeding Smile

Have you tried the allergies board on Mn? That's supposed to be good too and the FB group also have a website here. Smile

I haven't really looked into blw to be honest - it's not something that has appealed to be honest.

Maybe I'll look into it to see if it helps him cut down his portions a bit.##

Thanks
