Have I broken my baby?

Ds2 turned 6 months on Saturday so we have started weaning. Trouble is he's not very interested at all. We have tried to make it fun, singing songs etc, given him his own spoon, let him get messy, given him bits to hold but he literally takes 2 maybe 4 spoons (most of which seems to get spat out) before clamping his mouth shut, at which point we stop as don't want it to become a battle.

He had reflux as a young baby so was on medication which he hated. The reflux had reappeared in the last few weeks as he had a bad cold & is teething so is back on the medication which he still hates. He's just got another cold & hates being given calpol.I'm worried that having to effectively force his medication in him has created a really negative association with things going in his mouth & am really worried he's not going to eat.

Advice please, feeling really crap about it all.

Try baby led weaning. Some babies hate spoon feeding. Remember if you are still giving him breastmilk/formula he doesn't need much to eat as milk is still his main source of nutrition

Thanks for the replies!

Aidan- I think I ask this on a daily basis! Think baby led is going to be the way forward with him. Do you just give your ds bits of what you're having or are you following a book? Ds1 inhaled food from the first spoonful, we couldn't shovel it in fast enough for him so this with ds2 is uncharterd territory! I really want him to enjoy it & grow to love food so would be willing to give anything a try.

I would strongly advise investing in an Annabelle Karmel book, she is brilliant and helped me whilst weaning. Her books state that when first introducing solids, getting baby used to the idea of eating is more important than the ammount they take xx

Thanks all. We've had more success over the last 2 days with some carrot & yesterday some mashed potato, he seems to like grabbing the spoon & shoving putting it in his mouth himself.
