Am i doing this wrong?

Baby is 8 months now, on 3 meals a day plus lots of breast milk.

I give him an item of finger foods plus a "meal", well something sloppy like sweet potato, ready Breck, weetabix, Rusk. Give them as a combined meal at the same time.
Is this right or should I be giving one or the other?

sounds fine to give finger foods alongside smoother foods

I did a mix of both DS just gradually moved on to feeding himself.
