Becky is 8 months next week, yet no matter how much i try she wont finger feed! Itsas if she doesnt know how to put her hands to her mouth, yet she does with toys etc!

Just given her toast fingers this morning for the first time and she ate the first one ok, but then would only eat it if i fed her.

Any suggestions?!

Keep trying?!

Can she do the pincer grip thing yet? Maybe put little tiny bits down for her?

She'll get ther.

Can't believe she's that old already!

One of my mindees (I'm a childminder) is 11 months and having trouble with the finger food yet ok with toys. She keeps her arms back and waits for me to do it. I think you just have to keep with it and give loads of claps/clever girl etc. when she gets it right.

Good luck. I also can't believe she's 8 months old already (I remember you waiting for her to arrive :) - used to be HellyBelly BTW)

JARM, ds didn't finger feed effectively until last month (he is 10.5m) - some kids just take longer to get round to it! I found out what was his favourite thing to eat and put chunks of it on his tray - fed him the first one then left him to it! He soon got the message! The fact that she will do it at all is really good - it won't be long before she will feed herself all her finger food.
