Weaning, BF and AF return

I'm interested to know when those of you who are now weaning stopped breastfeeding and how that affected AF return.

Did BF take months to tail off (ie were /are you doing night feeds still etc) or did you draw a line under it as a particular point?

If you tailed off over a six month period, did you feel a massive hormone jump (feeling low, being spotty, moody etc) when you stopped? I'm assuming this would happen if you decide to stop BF and do a much shorted wind down.

Any experiences welcome.

By weaning are you talking about the introduction of solids or the cessation of bfing grow? It can mean different things to different people Smile

I mean the introduction if solids that also means that BF fades out (I want to phase it out around 9 months for a variety of reasons).

I'm keen to know how people's hormones were affected when stopping BF gradually through weaning for solids.

Well really they are 2 separate things. Its fine if you want to phase out bfing but you need to replace those feeds with formula. Until they are 12 months baby's usual milk should be given around an hour before you offer solids and milk (bm or formula) should be their main source of nutrition. Have a read of this on starting solids Smile

As for the Af mine came back a couple of months after I'd moved them into their own room and the night feeds decreased.

There is some good information on bfing and fertility here Smile

Have you spoken to a BFC? She should be able to talk you through moving over from bfing to formula. The numbers are here Smile

If you want personal experiences there will be as many answers as replies iyswim! My baby is ebf and eating really well. I got my first period since pregnancy at around 9mo, I think it's because she's feeding less/less often.

I don't think ( in my case) my AF return had anything to do with b/f and weaning. My periods returned 8 weeks after birth, despite exclusively b/f twins!

Oh mandy that's such tough luck! My bf has ebf 4 DC and her longest was 6 weeks post birth.
