How many times a day?

Hi. We started weaning yesterday with baby rice and DD took to it really well. We're going the purée route. How many times a day do we give it? Yesterday we did morning and afternoon with her normal feed.

The NHS guidelines state 3 small meals at day at 9 months alongside continued milk feeds.

I don't know how to do links from my iPad, but check out the NHS weaning page. Lot's of useful info.

Start with once per day, 1 or 2 spoons then increase amounts and frequency as appetite increases. You don't say how old your dc is, we started at 5 months and didn't get up to 3 meals a day until nearly 7 months.

oh, and for now give it after milk feed so that milk is still main source of nutrition.

PK1975 · 04/08/2013 10:46

Thanks. She's 6 months.

According to Keelymom 7-9 months should be a maximum of solids twice per day. Agree with the advice above too, until they are one solids should be offered roughly an hour after food.

If you are doing purees you don't really nee to start with baby rice, its just something that used to be given to babies who were weaned at a much younger age. Its fine to start with puréed fruit and veg or even mashed up family food, provided of course that you eat fairly healthily and watch the slt content. Dd will be fine with finger in conjunction with the purees at 6 months too Smile

Have you seen the MN weaning info as well as the NHS stuff? Its got a very useful timetable Smile

Sorry kellymom not Keelymom. The link is here Smile

Gosh I really have had a bit too much Wine

Solids should be an hour after babies usual milk feed. Once they are one you can offer solids before milk.

Thanks. I've read things all over the place, just couldn't see anything about how many times a day to start with - apart from the aim of 3 x a day later on. Grin
