Problems with lumpy food- always sick

My lo is 7.5 months old and have been weaning since 4months. At 7 months I started introducing lumps....terrible problems since.
I always feed her puréed food at lunch and TRY lumps at dinner however every mouthful she has she's viggourously sick- mostly down me! Fun!!
She gags and gags and it finally comes out! However she is happy for me to feed her lumps of sweet pot/pasta induvidually and will chew but it's when it's mixed with purée eg jars stage 2.
Anyone else had the same prob and how have you overcome this?
I can't keep feeding her puréed foods but still want to remain sick free
Thanks

What does she do with finger food?

She puts it in her mouth and takes bits off but most of it goes down her or the floor.

That sounds about right for a 7.5 month old. If she's vomiting vigorously with spoodfed lumps, how about trying just finger food for a while and see how she gets on with that? She might be happier with lumps if she is in control of putting them in her mouth.

My first son went from eating smooth purees to regular pieces of food. He hated all mashed textures (gagged and then refused to open his mouth) and even now (age 3.5) he refuses to eat mashed potato etc.

It looks like my DS2 is similar (although he's only 7 months) - he loves his purees and will munch happily on finger food (chewing and swallowing) but does NOT LIKE lumpy/mashed foods. Fair enough!

If it's any consolation, DS1 is a great eater apart from mashed potato! Some of his favourites include spag bol, veggie and cashew nut stir fry, fajhitas, chicken satay etc...

Oh - DS1 was eating smooth purees for one meal a day until he was 12 months! The other meals were just normal food (sandwich etc).
