Curry powders for babies

We love curries and would like to make 8mth one to try. Haven't time to make from scratch at mo but can u buy curry powders/paste suitable for babies.ie without salt?

It's not that time-consuming to make curry pastes from scratch, and they keep for ages. This book has some awesome recipes (the dhansak in particular is AMAZING) and could easily be adapted to be suitable for a baby.

I wouldn't risk a curry powder, as they are very, very salty, and I don't think there is an alternative. However, I probably would risk a normal paste...

Organix make curry pastes. I've only used the Tikka Masala one so far but it went down well with DD. Going to try Thai green curry next.

Curry powder shouldn't have any salt in it at all! It's simply a blend of spices, no salt. Although anything labelled as a "seasoning" has a lot of salt in it.
I chop some onions and garlic, fry, and then add a few tomatoes or some tinned tomatoes and put a teaspoon or 2 of curry powder and let leave it for a couple of mins. Then put whatever in it, veg, meat, fish, pulses etc and a bit of water and cook it till it's done.

You could just try making some dhal with a bit of garam masala in it, or something similar.

I really should make DD curry from scratch but I like my curry really hot and spicy and don't trust myself to make it mild enough for her.

I would and have used garam massala. Or a nix of ground cumin and ground coriander

Both of those go nicely with parsnip for a (slightly) spicy parsnip soup that DS used to love at that ag. The sweetness of the parsnips makes a nice introduction to curry flavours for them.

As far as I'm aware, other mums on MN who come from Asian backgrounds just give their babies regular curry sans hot spices.

DH is of mixed Asian origin and we give DS curry sometimes. We use our regular curry powder (Bolsts, to be precise) and there's no salt in it, just spices, ditto for garam masala. We make curry as usual but don't add salt or hot spice. We add salt at the table and use our own hot sauce which is also added at the table.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think sometimes we go a little bit too far in baby-fying stuff. Regular curry powder is just fine.
