Hi,
My lo is almost 6 months and I am finding it hard to know when to feed solids vs milk. Her pattern at the mo is:
8- 7oz bottle
9.30-porridge
11- 7oz bottle
2- savoury food & 7oz bottle (not all in one go- over the next 1-1.5hrs)
5- fruit purée & 7oz bottle (again same as above)
8- 7oz bottle and bed

Are you meant to give food then milk an hour later or visa versa?
If you could post me your routines that would be great!
Thanks

I should add that I'm confused as to how much to give her - at the moment she had 1/2 jar/fruit pot at each meal so not enough to drop a feed- which I am also confused about.
Hmmmm.....

Afaik it should be milk first, then food about an hour later. Milk is still the main form of nutrition at around 6 months - food should just be about introducing new tastes and textures.

I would follow your baby's lead with regard to how much you give them - no need to aim for a certain amount of food. Also follow their lead wrt dropping milk feeds - 6 months is too young to be dropping feeds imo.

Agree with brighton. Its milk then solids so that they don't drop the milk feeds too quickly. Between 6 and 12 months she should be having a minimum of 20floz of first stage milk each day.

Have you read the MN info on weaning? There is a very useful timetable Smile

JiltedJohnsJulie what's the MN info please?
Thanks for all of your advice, it's really helped!

Just google "Mumsnet weaning" and it's the first link. Smile

at that age our timings were roughly:
7am - milk
8am - breakfast
11am - milk
12pm - lunch
2.30/3pm - milk
5pm - dinner
7pm - milk

@ilovepowerhoop
How much lunch was you giving your lo? Eg a jar? Dessert after? Same for dinner also. Also how much milk in between?
Thanks

its a long way back to remember (ds is now 6!) but I am sure he was on 6-7oz bottles (he also had one on the night that isnt showing above and didnt drop that until 8 months) and the meals he had were quite small and werent 2 courses to start with.

I only used fruit jars with him and added them to baby rice (before 6 months) or weetabix or ready brek (after 6 months) to give flavour. I tried to make my own meat/veg purees for him and also gave finger foods from 6 months. (dd who is now 9 got mostly jars btw)
