7mo dropping bottles

Ds is doing well at weaning - a mix of finger foods and spoon feeding, and has all of a sudden dropped his 2 daytime bottles - 11ish and 3ish. I'm replacing them with snacks and water but dd didn't drop milk feeds u til much later, is this ok? He still has 2 bottles a day - first thing and just before bed.

TIA

The minimum recommended amount from 6 months until 12 months of first stage formula. So, if he's not getting that I'd cut right back on the solids. Maybe just offer solids once a day for a couple of weeks. The solids will fill his tummy but are unlikely to provide the calories and nutrition he needs to grow and develop.

At this age solids should be more about exploring taste and texture rather than filling them up or replacing bottles Smile

How are you getting on today?

He is not liking milk!!!! Only wants food - might be just the novelty I guess, but am making sure it's good stuff and will just see how we go.

Ps the problem is that he's crying with hunger but still won't take a bottle - just wants solids!! This is all new to me, dd was completely the opposite. Bloody kids.

If he's hungry but still won't take the bottle could you give him something little to hold and then try again? How is he at having the bottle himself? Have you tried the formula in a sports bottle or cup?

It really is important that he gets at least 20floz a day.

Think we are back on track - have reduced food and he's taking bottles again. Think maybe I got carried away with the novelty of a child that eats after dd who didn't!

Do they need about 20 oz of milk/day right up until they're one, or does it reduce?

Thanks v much for your advice.

Glad you are back on track. The NHS recommendation is 20floz of first stage milk until they are one. They also recommend ditching the bottles at one and moving onto full fat cows milk. Between one and two its 300ml of full fat cows milk a day.

Mine weaned a bit ago so it hopefully you'll get some more posters who can talk to you about reducing the quantities nearer one Smile
