When does his reluctant to spoon feed start to matter?

My DS is 10.5 m old and we have been BLW. He enjoys finger food and eats most things...but he rarely accepts a spoon. We load it and leave on his tray & he splatters it everywhere; we hold it towards his mouth & he shakes his head. So he therefore gets not yoghurt etc. the only thing he'll take on a spoon is weetabix. Sometimes porridge. I'm not worried at the mo, but once he's one, could this be a problem?

Don't worry. My DD hated being spoonfed until she could feed herself which she started to do soon after a year I think. I let her get stuck in to yoghurts with her hands. I sometimes let her drink them from the container but it is very messy.

Give your DS an empty spoon from time to time and let him practice. He'll soon get pretty good at feeding himself.

My DD also hated being spoon fed until she could do it herself. At about a year old we started giving her a spoon/fork with her meals and letting her experiment, although she mainly still used her hands. Was messy when we gave her yoghurt! But a few months later she was competent with the cutlery and preferred to use it if she could. Still, it is quite impressive what she can manage to eat with her hands!

Can't remember dd ever having a spoon until she could do it herself. Really wouldn't worry about it.

What they all said ^. And for DS too.

Its really not a problem - either don't give him yogurt, or give him things to dip in it.

Chuck some forks and spoons on his tray, and eventually he'll decide to use them
