At what age to start giving a baby water........?

This sounds like a silly question but i really can not rememeber when you are suppost to start giving babies water? anyone any idea?

I was told to offer water straightaway in formula feeding, and with brestfeeding to introduce it with solids. But I suppose if it's hot you could start earlier. Tbh it took me months and months of patient offering everyday before ds took it without acting like I was trying to poison him!

But he takes it really well now (he's 8 months) and asks for water.

Well dd is nearly 4 months & i have been giving her bits here & there but i am just so unsure, i have stopped bf.

I would keep offering every day and as soon as you wean to offer it with each meal. (We don't with breakfast because he has his bottle then)

It takes ages, but it's worth it it the end.

Thanks for the info it has helped she drinks it sort of ok probably about 1-2 ozs then when she realises its not milk she pushes it out of her mouth, but i will just keep offering it

Thats all ds had for months. Don't worry if he's thirsty he'll take it. It only really increased when he started to have water with his meals. I suppose he has about 5-8ozs of water a say.

Sometimes more sometimes a lot less. I used to worry he'd get dehydrated but he never did, just make sure he has wet nappies and don't worry about it.
