Hi

My DD has been sitting with us (on my lap or in a bumbo) whilst we've been eating for the past 2 wks.

Yesterday she grabbed some meat and cauliflower from my plate and started sucking it to death. She didn't swallow any (I don't think) She can hold her head very well and seemed to find her mouth with no problems!

Should I offer her food reguarly now, despite not being 6 months?

Hope you don't mind me watching your thread Smile

How many weeks is she? My dd demonstrated that she met all the [[http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/solid-foods-weaning.aspx#close signs of readiness at 23 weeks by taking some food and scoffing it. So different babies do meet the criteria at different times.

If she is just 5 months I'd leave it though. Before 6 months all you can really give them is fruit and veg. If you do decide to wean the current advice is to give them their usual milk an hour before solids until they reach one.

Have you read the Mn weaning info too? It's very good Smile

I offered finger food, fruit and veg etc at 5 months

Sorry for slow response! She will be 22weeks tomorrow. I've read the mn advice. Thanks for the link jilted.

I offered her some baby porridge this am. I dipped a spoon. She put it in her mouth and sucked it clean and yelled for more but wouldn't let me spoon fed her. She had to put it in her mouth. Messy yes but she had a huge grin on her face so she obviously had fun!

I offered her a bread stick at lunch which she also ate. Cucumber was sucked and rejected! Think I'll leave bits of fruit and veg on her tray and if it goes on floor then she's telling me she's no
Interested.

Well if she can feed herself t sounds like she is meeting the criteria and the things you are offering seem sensible? My dd was a total spoon refuser too Smile

It's when we started as she was stealing my food!
